Purpose of establishing Library

  • To develop highly qualified human resources
  • To be a society that is constantly learning
  • To be able to learn daily and advanced knowledge from the basic level to the researcher level
  • To develop intellectuals and technicians who are good sons and daughters of the country not only in education but also in the future.
  • To increase the spirit of patriotism and knowledge to our beloved country

Founding and Opening Library

  • The UDNR library was founded and opened on July 22, 1965, during the Academy for the Development of National Groups period, in the basement of the Director’s (Principal’s) residence on the campus in Sagaing.
  • The ADNG library was co-opened in the department of Fine Art when ADNG was relocated from Sagaing to Ywa Thit Gyi village in 1968.
  • The ADNG library was constructed and opened in a separate building in 1978.
  • The new UDNR library and museum building was opened on 1st June, 2005 when ADNG which was opened on 20th October, 1964 was upgraded to a university (level) on 10th May, 1991.
  • The new building of UDNR library and museum is a two-storey reinforced concrete structure with a length of 200 feet and a width of 40 feet.

Number of Books and Genres

The textbooks or coursebooks on a particular subject, aesthetics books and knowledge books are collected in the library of University for the Development of the National Races of the Union. There are 11709 books in Myanmar, 7238 books in English, 601 books in Japanese and 6540 magazines, altogether 26,088 books at the library. 

There has been systematically provided for the several types of book in the library: the teaching-aid materials or coursebooks, religious books, knowledgeable books, the books on national tradition and culture of all ethnic groups, books relating to politics, economics, literature, thesis, research, reference, aesthetics and periodicals as well as daily newspapers. The books have been got access to “Dewey Decimal Classification” system in order to be found them readily. 

Library rules and regulations

  1. Library is open from Tuesday to Saturday and the opening time is from 8:00 am to 11:00 am in the morning and from 13:00 pm to 16:00 pm in the afternoon. During school holidays, library opening dates are from Monday to Friday.
  2. Each library user has access to borrow three books for just one week. No one is allowed to enter into the book store room. 
  3. Library users have to borrow their necessary books after expressing book name, writer or author, number of publishing house and catalog / category completely at the book registration /checking counter.
  4. If library users want to renew the borrowed book, they can renew it again, only when another person hasn’t informed/ registered to borrow it in advance. 
  5. Those who are doing research have been allowed to borrow five books each for two weeks.
  6. If failure to return books on due dates, i.e. it overdues to return books, the library users must pay fifty kyats as a fine in each book for one day.
  7. For the borrowed book being damaged or destroyed and lost, those have to replace with the same new one. If not so, the three times of present cost for that book must be paid.
  8. Don’t take periodicals and reference books out of the library, but can be read in the library only.
  9. Library users can borrow the books by own library ID card. Don’t take it over from others, nor borrow on behalf of them. If the library card is damaged and lost, the owner must inform about it to the staff in the library.
  10. No one is allowed to bring his or her own brief-case, bag and files into the study room/ learning center of library.
